Minister Fikile Mbalula confirmed that he heard the news of the musician’s death from Zynne Sibika, known as DJ Mahoota.
“It is indeed a great loss, Senyaka was no small feat. He contributed to Arts and Culture,” said Mbalula.
Kekana who had been in a comma for the past week died at Kopano Hospital in Vereeniging this morning.
“This came as a shock, it came like a Tsunami because we did not expect it as we never heard news of him being sick,” said Mbalula.
Mbalula says that Senyaka was planning on releasing a new album.
“Just a month ago I was listening to Senyaka with T-bo Touch. He was saying that he is planning on releasing an album,” he said.
Senyaka is popularly known for his movie; ‘Moruti Wa Tsotsi.’ He starred as a scurrilous pastor, in the feature film and its spin-off television series; ‘Confessions to Moruti wa Tsotsi’.
He created quite a controversy when shot a diss song to Brenda Fassie and Yvonne Chaka Chaka “Why uzonda magents.” This brew one of the biggest musical kwaito beefs with Brenda responding with her own diss song: “Ma-gents”
Mbalula said that the Arts and Culture as well as South Africa as a whole is poorer without Senyaka.
Senyaka, 58, had two children a boy and a girl.
