COPS raided shacks in Joburg’s strife-torn Zandspruit kasi over the weekend, looking for property looted from shops last week.
Eight cases of beer, 13 gas cylinders and safes containing cash were among the items recovered during the joint SAPS and Metro cop operation.
Looters cleaned out the kasi bottle store and torched a shop last week.
JMPD spokesman Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said 13 people were bust for public violence.
The looting followed violent protests against the cutting of illegal power connections.
Zandspruit was a no-go area last week, with cars being stoned and burned.
The area was tense but calm over the weekend and taxi drivers started work again.
Unhappy residents said they were also protesting over the poor sanitation and lack of housing.
Local leader Thobile Dubazana said people had waited in vain for City of Joburg officials to assist them.
She said residents supported the protest but condemned the looting.
