Katlego “Killer” Mphela in talks with POLOKWANE City. POLOKWANE City coach Kosta Papic wants to sign overrated striker Katlego “Killer” Mphela.
The Serbian-coach has promised to mend the out-of-shape striker back to his old best if he was able to sign with the Limpopo outfit where there may be an agreement on a deal later this afternoon.
Papic said he expects a lot from the former Kaizer Chiefs striker who is on trial at Rise and Shine.
Papic yesterday revealed: “Killer is with us and obviously not in good shape, but I can help him with that.
“He will be here tomorrow (today) where we will sit, talk and both make a decision. It will be better for him to stay at the club capable of giving him what he wants – game time to get him back to his best.
“I’m sure we will both be reasonable with his salary demands, but that is not for me, we will see.”
Mphela (30) could not be reached for comment yesterday. He remains Bafana Bafana’s all-time third leading scorer despite an indifferent last two seasons because of injuries and lack of game time.
He apparently was unhappy with the offer made by University of Pretoria, where he held trials earlier this month.
Mphela’s career took a nose dive after his headline move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Kaizer Chiefs last year turned out to be an anti-climax as he was frustrated with injuries.
– Meanwhile, credible Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus could earn about R350 000 monthly should his deal with Egyptian side Zamalek go through.
Yesterday media reports suggested a deal worth R20 million has been struck between Zamalek and Pirates.
