A HERO Metro cop yesterday helped deliver a baby boy in a squatter camp after protesters prevented an ambulance from entering the area.
City of Cape Town Metro officer Abdullah Fisher came to the rescue after a 29-year-old mum went into labour in Dunoon squatter camp.
Residents of the area had been protesting for four days, demanding land.
They vowed to continue demonstrating until their demands were met.
Yolande Faro of the City of Cape Town said: “Constable Fisher was standing down at Ekuphumleni Road in Dunoon when a member of the public approached him to say a woman was giving birth.
“The officer responded and delivered a baby boy . The mum and the baby were then taken to the N7 for the ambulance service to attend to both patients.
“Constable Fisher said he was accompanied by two officers with shotguns due to the unrest in the area. The woman was transported to Somerset Hospital for further medical checks.”
