Ruth Mashele worked for the municipality for 12 years and retired with a payout of R260 000.
The 51-year-old from Barberton, Mpumalanga planned to enjoy retirement, but her Ben 10 (28) had other ideas.
He vanished with her money, leaving her with trunks full of rocks and papers.
“I met him in August when I saw his pamphlet saying he could cure any illness.
“I needed someone to cure my son who is mentally ill and he suggested that we be lovers so he could help me with my son as well as my four other kids.”
She said she told him that he was too young for her but he insisted. He showed her papers saying he was a traditional healer and a businessman. “We later became lovers,” she added. In January, Ruth’s Ben 10 said he wanted to turn her into a big businesswoman.
He brought two trunks filled with cash and said it was the money he wanted to use to start her businesses.
“I told him I wanted a butchery, bottle store and tractor loader backhoe as well as a BMW X5, a Ford Ranger and a Quantum kombi,” she said.
“He said there was enough money in the trunk to make my dreams come true but I had to quit my job first.”
When she resigned and received the money, the Ben 10 convinced her to withdraw the cash and she gave him R230 000.
He said he was going to buy a house and deposit all the money into her account but alas seems she had been robbed.
